Default What shake?

Im basically trying to bulk up/put weight on/gain more muscle and have been stuck on 10 1/2 st for a few months now.
Im using Metrx pure whey powder (mixed with milk), but have been looking at ALL the others available! And have seen such like Progain - weight and muscle gain, any good? Also a protein and egg powder!
What do other people use or have used which seem to work?
I have looked at meal replacements to add into my diet but not sure on this!
Any help much appreciated.

I'm not sure what is in Metrx but usually pure whey is 100% protein. If you are of the type of build that is naturally slim and find it hard to put on any weight then I would suggest trying some of the other weightgain shakes out there that contain carbs too.

Firstly MetRX Pure Whey is not in the same family as weightgainers.

The above depends on how much you can and need to consume during the day,.....if you find it hard to get through your daily calories and you are trying to gain then....You need a quality weightgainer mate...to make life easier!

Chemical Nutrition-PRO MASS,
Reflex-Instant MASS
Maximuscle-PROGAIN

are among the best.

Meal replacement from the likes of MetRX are very good but contain far less carbs than weightgainers, but you can blend in some oats to alter the ratio if you wish. MR contain many minerals and vitamins along with different mixes of proteins which provide a fast and slow release. Your Pure Whey is a fast acting protein which will be utilized much quicker around 45mins, and is best used Post work out or first thing in the morning when your body is screaming out for protein.

Hope that helps.

I'm using pro lab Nlarge2 & i've gone from 9st to 11st in a little under 6 months although have only been using the pro lab stuff on & off for the past 2 months. Mixed with a good diet & decent weight training routine has also helped.

Generally guys all the shakes claim to do the same thing i.e wieght gainers, lean mass builder, pure whey, isolate, hydragenised whey. but its not ronseal!!! if you know what i mean

But as long as you stick to whatever your body wieght is in kilos then you need double the amount in grams of protien i.e me im 107kg so i need 214grams of protien a day to gain mass. my current bmi is 21. I currently train 5 times in the gym and do 2 martial arts classes a week to help with the cardio side of life.

Personally i have a few different ways of getting in quality protien but stacked with amino acids and a decent low carb/protien heavy diet.

Obviously this works for me, and everyone is different but just thought id have my two pennith!

No,.... they don't.

Depends on ..The time....The calorie need.....The situation...........Cutting or bulking!

Which would you take before bed?? Whey, Isolate or Casein.

Nice one Dave .....

to improve on that though...

if you want to reduce the milk sugar from your diet you could try Casein?... this would be better, but you'll have another tub in the cupboard

or you could blend some cottage cheese in with the whey and use water instead of milk.

Two of the best would be.....

1. Chemical Nutrition..Pro Peptide. Best on the market but pricey.

2. Reflex....Micellar Casein.

This will enable a slow release of protein through the night, and studies have shown it can last up to 7 hours!! keeping you in an..Anti-Catabolic state.

Tip Dave.....don't blend casein for long,... and be warned it don't taste like your dymatize

How's it all going?

Yes half hour before bed...one scoop will be fine.

Glad to see it's all going well mate keep it slow and the fat will keep coming off. CONSISTENCY is the key.

U have a Bench with dumbells at work , use em...press/flyes/incline/decline.

No worries mate.

Dont know where you found this but your protein intake should be 1.7g of protein per kg of body weight (for a strength trainer, slightly less for an endurance trainer), so your intake should be 182g per day. Currently your eating this extra protein (32g) but its not actually giving you any gains as your body cannot make use of. Plus theres always the consideration of the effects of a high protein diet on the kidneys for example.

Should make your whey protein last a bit longer now

Is this bedtime protein proven to help with muscle repair and NOT more likely to put on fat like the old wives tales suggest "never eat before bed" blah...

Hi Stu,

Eating before bed and putting on fat,....well that all depends on your training times and calorie needs for the day. Say if you could only train late in the evening then you would still need to eat carbs and protein before going to bed.

But if you are weight training then the protein before bed will help keep you in an ant-catabolic state through out the nights rest and help with recovery. You feed your body 6-7 or 8 times during the day and then it goes 8-9 hours during the night with no food!! But we are talking a sensible feed here, not a late night curry and chips.

I expect many on here including myself ingest protein befor bed and Casein is one of the best sources due to it's slow release over a long period of time.

Excellent, well i train almost the same time every day, 6 - 7/7:30.

Home 30mins later and protein drink, then tea about 30mins after that.

No not really Dave, just follow the info on the tub and awhey you go ....but you could reduce the amount of water for a stronger flavour!...but then again you are drinking this for results...not for the taste as you will find with the peptide!

More important would be post workout, if you were silly and added v.little water to the whey it would not uptake as quick as if it was more diluted.

Another whey of slowing the uptake of whey should you need, is by adding Skim Milk or an Oil blend.

If I say it taste like 5hite....it will not seem so bad for you Dave.

If you add a scoop to post along with whey, this will give you a longer feed of protein...so a good thing really, ...but your tub will be empty sooner

Bored ...try,

Lean Steak
Salmon
Egg Whites
Prawns...no dirty dressing though!!
Cottage Cheese
Mackeral
Meal Replacements

Just a few ideas Dave
