it is a common misconception that a high metabolism means high energy burning, meaning being skinny.
high metabolism = your body extracts all the fat/carbs/sugars etc from food quickly, and early on in the digestion process, which means more possibility of you being a fat chunt as the body stores this energy for later as fat.
low metabolism = your body doesnt remove all the fats/carbs/sugars etc from the food inserted properly/quickly. this means your body uses the little bit of energey that has been extracted and passes the rest, meaning there's no surplus and nothing gets stored on your body as fat.
so to summarise, the faster your metabolism is, the fatter you are (in 'most' cases...obviously if you troff like a pig etc you are an exception to this), the slower your metabolism is, the thinner you are.

lol see we went a bit off topic here!!!
ok you wanna gain weight? it seems like you are an ectomorphic hardgainer.
Whats your height?
follow some of the tips below and you WILL put on weight:
Try full body workouts, with a two day break in between.
Do one exercise for each muscle group, and aim for a around 4 sets of 8 reps.
Focus on compound movements, thats what will add the mass ie. benchpress, squat, deadlift, pullups...
Take in as many "good" calories as possible, and aim for at least 1 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight a day. Eat foods such as chicken, steak, fish, wholemeal bread, wholewheat pasta, brown rice. In your case you can afford to have some "bad" foods as these wont add much fat to you! You will need to pack as many calories in as you possibly can, aim to gradually increase your current calorie intake by 500 calories a day in the first week, then by another 500 calories the second week, then a further 500 calories the week after and so on. try not to increase your calories massively straight away, as your body may speed up the breakdown of food even more, and all your extra calories will be wasted!!!
After every workout down a weight gainer shake, or protein shake, this is the best time for your body to get the nutrients it needs to grow.
SLEEP: get at least 8 hours of sleep a night, you dont grow in the gym, its while u rest that the growth is gonna happen!
Be patient, aim to put on around 2 lbs a week of lean body mass, any more and you will be gaining to much fat
Try creatine: it can give you more strength, but will add some water weight to you
LIFT HEAVY!!!! Lift the heaviest weights you possibly can and complete around 4 sets of 8 reps, the lastfew reps of each set should feel almost impossible.

Where did you copy and paste that from?
To gain weight, eat more. End of.
That training scheme above is just the same shit every BB site posts up for "hard gainers".
The reason you are a hard gainer is because you are not eating enough. Eating a few sandwiches, some cakes, some chocolate bars and a packet of crisps which I imagine your diet is very close to is not going to make you grow. yes your metabolism probably is fast, so eat more quality food not crap.

it wasnt copy and pasted from anywhere, do u actually know anything about weight training?
its not eat more end of. if u want to gain muscle YOU MUST LIFT WEIGHTS. If you simply eat more you wont be gaining mass in places you want it.
and the training scheme is not crap, its been used by a lot of people who were considered skinny, who have used it to put on quality amounts of weight, including me. im only speaking from my own experience and others that i know experiences.
if what your saying is from experience then fair enough, that cant be argued with, but if not, then let people who have been in the same place as the original poster tell him how they changed their body.

Yes I do
The bloke asked how to gain 'weight', not muscle. But despite this, with a fast metabolism, it will be very unlikely that with decent training and somewhat sensible food, he wont get fat. Even if he were to put on a few lbs of lard, cutting would be easier than gaining it anyway.
If its not copy/pasted, then its memorized, regurgitated, because that generic little training plan is crap! OK perhaps crap is a bit harsh, but theres only one 'tip' in there of use - and thats eat more! The weight will come regardless of the other 'tips', such as sleep schedule, training intensity etc

how can u say its crap when it has worked for me and many other people i know ???
all you have said is "eat more" is it really that simple??? if you really understood the way the body works then you would know that just by eating more without spacing it out correctly your metabolism would speed up even more and it would be a total waste. you need to eat more, but spread it out over the day so ur body gets all the nutrients from the food, and doesnt just get saturated and shit the rest out as waste.
when he says he wants to gain weight im sure he doesnt mean he wants to gain fat, but like u say this will be unavoidable, but the majority of mass he is looking for should be muscle.
and yes it is memorised, if u did know about weight training, then surely u would know that by performing compound lifts you will add mass to your overall body as it produces natural growth hormones. i have been weight training for a few years now, and have spent a lot of time researching and talking to REAL people who have made excellent muscle gains using the plan.
its true u can put on weight from simply eating more, but this isnt the right way, its got to be done in a healthy way, muscle is what gives your body shape, not fat, if u want a well defined and muscular body u do need to rest on your off days, and take in the right amounts of protein.
im not sayin that has to be followed like a bible, but it gives some idea of what to work towards...
how can u argue with it, when i followed it and got good results?
dont be so quick to rubbish other peoples advice when ur own advice isn't all that "eat more" if only that was all you had to do to gain decent weight.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
s2-ross, mate not sure what you know so i cant really say much but i do know Ballin knows his shit, and i mean really knows his shit.
I have been training for yrs and have heard/read/been told pretty much everything there is to be told...
ok lets put it this way, a lad at my gym is 22 stone and competes, the bloke is a walking monster and to add weight and size(muscular) he dont eat more chicken, or other high protien foods, he gets up at 3 in the morning and eats a whole trifle, other than that he eats burgers, pizza and shit loads of chocolate for energy......
fuck me he is huge and he is pretty much on top of his game....he eats what ever he can get his hands on, he is like a god damn food dump. He eats so much he is sick of the sight of food period, he hates the thought of chewing yet more food, but to put the size on and to lift what he does he needs to eat and consume so many calories he cant possibly get that from chicken and tuna......
