broken bone.......

bollox. not happy at all. stumbled in the house yesterday and put my hand out to stop me. just been to hospital and the worst i feared is confirmed. my 5th metacarpal is broken just below the knuckle :(

cant grip, make a fist, punch or move my little finger without big pain. am tying like a 1 finger spacco! not had a wank yet

theres fuck all that can be done other than tape together my little finger to the one next to it. it hurts like a mo fo all the time. proper bastard of a dull ache 24/7 that turns into shooting pains evey time it moves. plus it looks like a 40 stone beefy chunkers michelin man sausage fingers for a hand now

i know its frustrating mate but try not to foce yourself back to how you were. I only know too well to let injuries heal FULLY before attempting to go back to fitness or pushing them to be able to do things again e.g. making a fist. Give it time mate, you don't want to be sidetracked further do you.

no mate, have resigned myself to the fact that theres no boxing again until at least mid september (i get married in 3 weeks, then 3 weeks honeymoon). ive had over 3 weeks out now and am missing training like mad. i was soooooo contemplating going this week and just strapping it up to fook but thought better of it in the end for reasons youve said.

tbh i wondering if it will ever heal properly, my knuckle is now non existant where it should be - seems to have move 10mm backwards!

Benni 03-08-2007 12:14 AM

Time is a great healer mate. ;) :top:

Matt 17-08-2007 12:03 AM

knuckle is returning and i can now make a fist but am barred from boxing cos of our wedding next sun just incase
bones and the way they heal are amazing, the x ray last week showed what looked like welding round the break, doc said the swelling will go down and the bone will "return to normal shape naturally" :top:

Think I broke that part of my hand when I was younger, and had it strapped up in a similar way.

... now when I try to put my fingers together with palm open, both my little finger and the one next to it bend outwards :S

Wazzzer 26-10-2007 11:57 AM

I know how you feel mate, I broke my ring finger on my right hand in 2 places a few years ago when I had a stud pulled fall about 10ft from a blade I was working on and land on my hand (weighed about 40kg)

I think I had tendon damage as well as I can't move my ring finger independently of my little finger any more :(

Lambchop 27-10-2007 04:21 PM

i didnt know you did this gimpy!!

That looks like same bone i broke before the wedding. Did it once before also. And also broken the ring finger knuckle on right hand :wall: :wall: :wall:

i was in plaster tho so cant understand why you werent?

Was it a "boxers fracture" you had???

the hospital said the tendons and ligaments will keep it in place but they wont stop it bending sideways. thats the only reason they strapped it to the next finger.

yeeh the hospital referred to it as a boxing injury. i let them think that but in reality it was a tripped over the fucking nintendo whilst pissed and fell funny injury

Matt J 01-11-2007 01:07 PM

married now then? my condolences  ;)

Explains the thai boxing though I suppose, ready for the onslaught
