Default protein shakes

are they necessary? I eat a good diet and am making progress in my weights, my personal trainer said that I would gain more with the shakes. I`ve taken two different types and they dont agree with me, I get sore stomach and fart like mad. Do I really need them?

thanks mate, I eat seven to eight meals a day at the minute, my better half has commented on me eating like a horse, think I`ll not bother with the shakes. Good luck with your training and thanks for the reply

The most important time to have a protein shake is immediatley after training as they are absorbed much quicker than food would be (food takes a few hours to be digested). The nutrition you get from the shakes aid in your recovery but you can get everything else you need during the day from food.

Hope this helps

Mackers, you only need the shake if you aren't getting the protein and other nutrients from your diet. If you are getting it all from what you eat then the shakes are a waste of money. If you can't eat enough then they are worth while.

Also if you have a proper meal after training within 30mins-1 hour then again you don't need the shake

A meal 30min - 1 hour well you have miss the recovery window which is the most important meal of the day plus the meal takes 1.5 - 2 hours to digest so what a waste of a training session. Hense why a supplement is needed.

Well I take a shake straight after training while I`m in the gym, then straight home to my dinner. Thanks for the advice
