With all excercise is really does take time, stick with the biking and if you like swimming is pretty good too. Any cardio work will be good for you really. Depending on your situation activities such as biking and swimming provide good workouts with little or no impact which can often bring excercise to a halt as quick as your started.
Try to excercise regular and maybe have a wee look at your diet aswell.

As you will see from many threads in this room diet is one of the most important things but biking is a good form of exercising & should help to weight loss. As RS1 said swimming is also good & running will also be good as well. As said check out a few of the threads in this room & they should set you on your way ti what you want to acheive
