where do i start?

i wanna get my fitness back after a good few yrs of doing tbh fuck all. im now going to be 25 in a week and i feel shit and look it. i was between 13-14st for yrs till about a yr or 2 ago and now weigh 18st. i was riding my bike, walking 40mins home from work everyday, playing football. but now i cant even run for the bus without feeling that im going to have a heart attack. im 6'2" so it dont look like im that fat, but if im naked i look like a frog being held up long legs and a pot belly lol.

i want to know what i should be doing to ease myself back into getting fit as i used to have a flat gut, good stamina and a shape to me not a beer belly shape.

i want to get toned but....i wanna lose the weight aswell i dont want to be a 18st brickshit house. i just wanna be toned and less weight. i would like to have a body like what charlie sheen had in hot shots part 2 or ed norton in american history X...not being vain but thats my ideal body. could i acheive that?

any tips peeps? ask any questions too i dont mind whatever they are.

yes i do smoke yes i do drink and i do eat crap and sleep bad

thanks

Rob

Miracles dont exist mate - 1st of all take the plunge like me and join a quality gym, i've never been to a gym in my life till this week, i was 13st 6 but i'm same as u just look awful with a podgy beer gut, general flab from face to my calfs etc, with clothes on i look ok lol, but i'm getting a proper training plan sorted next week when my instructors back off holiday, so this week i have just done basic easy cardio stuff and had a basic play with some weights, i've cut beer out, chocolate, crisps, not ate after 8pm at all, drank more water, ate more salad, chicken, pasta, jackets, tuna etc...and i already feel a bit better, more confident, even excited, but i know it's going to be damn hard as i did a bit too much today & felt sick afterwards, but the key to it all is knowing what to do for yourself, ie get a tailor made program, and update it regular, be prepared to cut the crap too, and have some determination & think of the beach, maybee not this summer but even next, but it's gotta be much better looking like Beckham or somebody than a bag o shite.

I don't know if this'll help, I get pissed off when I'm dieting, somebody who should know reckons it takes around 3 weeks for a diet/exercise change to find it's way to the areas that matter.

Helped me out, don't know if it's true or not, but it gave the push to keep going after the first fortnight, and seemed right enough, did notice the difference then.

Thats heartening to know i guess, altho i got on the scales at work on Monday i was 14st but i dont think there accurate, i got on again last night after a couple of days gym work and 5 days of eating more sensibly, not dieting as such i was 13 st 6 on the work scales, on the more accurate scales at the gym on wednesday i was 13 st 6 too.

Keep at it mate ;-) There's nowt more gratifying than when you see it coming off :top:

And weigh yourself less often, I got told to rely less on the scales, and more how you feel in yourself, and I hate to admit it, they had a good point

whats the best for getting rid of flab? cardio?

Steve200+ 18-04-2006 02:23 AM

From what I've been told from people who should know, good diet, and fixed-rate cardio exercise. It's apparantly very important that it's fixed-rate, ie run/jog/cycle/whatever at a constant speed.

Doesn't have to be a high speed, if it's lower, you can keep it up for longer, so it all helps :top:

I spend far too much of my time doing the beer/crap food/etc thing, have a massive health kick probably 4 times a year for a month at a time, I lay off everything... I go thin as fook, and look ill

My Kickboxing trainer, when I first started some years back, and I wasn't making quick progress, said 'Think of all the people who are sitting on their arse watching telly and doing nothing, think what they're gaining, and what you're losing.'. Did wonders for motivation at the time, that, when you think about it.

I'm no expert or claim my way works for everyone or that it is healthy, but, before dropping all the bad shit out your diet just try the exercise, I did just that, not on purpose but by change of circumstances. few years ago when I was a bit skint the car broke and couldnt afford to fix it, so I started using the bike to work and back and everywhere I needed to go basically, and in about 6 month's lost roughly 3.5 stone, went from 16.5 stone to near as damn it 13 stone, plus by the end I couldnt tell I'd been on the bike when I got off it, no loss of breath or knackered etc.

So just by exercising I lost the weight, I wasnt in a position to change my diet either cause I was living at home so I didnt do any of the food shopping or cooked any of the meals, was eating exactly the same meals and same amount, it just got burnt off before it got chance to stick ;)

Now weigh 14 stone and I dont exercise out of work, but I handball 10000kg of steel 5 days a week and apart from the odd fucked joint/muscle I dont feel to bad, although stamina is now shocking, must try and get back on the bike, sorry for waffling on
