Default best place for gym equipment n what to get?

getting sick of payin the gym now, gonna set up my cellar

wheres the best place to go for stuff, 2nd off ebay?
got to do it on a budget

only thing i have at the mo is a york bench and some york dumbells

first thing i need is a bar for the bench and some extra weights, but i cant seem to find any of the york ones anywhere (there the black cast irons 1s)

then was think a multi gym, rower and some sort or exercise bike

any one recommend where to go for them and what to go for?

cheers lads

you can buy the york cast iron weights from argos but i think they only got up to 5kg. if you want biggers ones might be worth finding a specialist gym equipment suppler.

i would have thought their all a standard size as the bar has to be a certain size for you to grip it

Yep, there is basically 1" Diameter and Olympic.

About 200 notes for a power rack. 6 foot straight bar about 20 notes. Couple quid for collars. As much weight as you need from, say here: http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/...-2.asp?dept=52

That would be what I would buy. It really sucks to train without a power rack.[/url]

Actually, you might save money if you could find a deal on a bar, collars and at least 125 kilos of weight, I would say.

I cant see any reason why you couldnt buy weights off Ebay, other than the postage costs. Its just lumps of fucking metal after all, not much to go wrong with it.

The way I did it was buy a shitty argos setup, bend the bar dropping a deadlift, buy a proper bar, then buy 2x10k plates from argos every week or so as my need for weight went up. Its expensive to do it that way, plus you could do with some bigger plates, 20 or 25 kilos ideally.

What sort of lifting routine are you doing, by the way? I have a tendency to assume everyone lifts in a similar fashion.

I would personally try the local Freeads. Exercise equipment must be the most purchased yet never used thing in the world!

Probably true, only thing I would think though would be that youd be more likely to get metrosexual machines and suchlike, rather than actual weight. A power rack, say, is a serious piece of kit, not the sort of thing people buy and sell every day. If you could get some second hand weight though, Id take it. Depends how cheap you want to be really!

I guess its the luck of the draw but I saw an ad a while back from some guy clearing out his garage gym and he had advertised 1000kgs in free weights!

You never know!

Haha, probably not. Im a freeweight nazi is all. I think Im going to get a free ads paper, after what Keiron said.

This is a power rack.

Basically like a multi-gym for free weights. You can perform most exercises with that and a bench. And, of course, it basically spots for you, so, if youre alone in your basement, and you want to try a new 1RM on the bench, you set the safety bars just above your chest, and if you cant make the lift, you wont have your ribcage crushed.

The most important thing its for really is squatting. Its less useful if you dont squat. Its tricky to squat really heavy without one.

Just read very carefully what is said about form, because if you dont have it down, then it is dangerous. (Like any good lift really) And it will make you a bitch the first time you do it. About three years ago, I first came across them, I did 4 sets of 25 without any weight at all, just my bodyweight. Next morning I could hardly walk up the hill to university. You should probably deadlift too.
