People in the know, what are drop sets exactly?
Have heard these mentioned and talked about by a few but dont fully understand what they do for you and when they should be in a work out if at all??

Basically when you do you heaviest set to failure, rather than rack the weight and get up/stop, you rack the weight and drop it by 25% and then go to failure again. You repeat until you get to 25% of your starting weight. For example on bench press
5 x 100kgs followed immediately by 5 x 75kgs followed by 5 x 50kg and so on.
Its a method used to add intensity to your workout and really fuck the muscles. However it is not advisable to do it on every exercise. If i do 4 exercises per bodypart I may use dropsets on a maximum of 2 exercises.
However on calves I do an all out mental set. I do a couple of warmups and then stack the weight. I only do 5 reps at a time but I drop the weight by two plates. I think I end up doing 8-10 mini sets in one big one. But thats it, no more for calves. This is high intensty training.
