Mileage tends not to be the problem. Be more concerned with how it's been treated. To be honest though there are so many decent cars out there for sub £2k there is no reason to buy a high miler. I got my missus sister an S plate Snoopy Fiesta with 60k for £1300.

my misses 1.25 Si has done 101K and has no oil leaks, starts on the button and is fine.
We have just done the full service with belts etc on it and it sails through at mot time.
Just depends on how they have been treated.
Getting her a Zs next as she has been driving a while now and can afford to insure a higher group car but her Si has been a good first car.

providing theyve been serviced and run on the correct oil there shouldnt be a problem. avoid magnatec oil, can gunk up the oilways and cause starvation to the bearings. best results have been with motorcraft stuff.
look out for knocks on tickover and around 3k, usually means the engines scrap. 1250's cannot be rebuilt but engines are 2-300 to replace. ford say cam belt @ 100k.
look out for coolant leaks from the top hose and the header tank return, check under the coil pack, it can drip into the main loom multiplug and cause problems.
rev happy but can be thirsty for such a small engine. running costs are peanuts otherwise.
