Best ways to keep my FRST cool
Due to the warm weather and my FRST deciding to lose its coolant all over the place wot are the methods people use to keep their engines cool?

have you got a front mount cooler???
if so is it blocking your rad????
do you have an alluminium or xr2i radiator??? as the standard item isn't up to it.
What boost pressure are you running??
Is the head gasket on its way out??

I wouldn't have thought it would be having a temp prob, you may find during the warmer weather the gauge go up slightly but don't worry too much that car is equipped with the right gear.

With my not so mechanically minded brain i think it may be the fan not working because it didnt cut in even though the temp gauge was in the red!
Slight pressure leak from the header tank so im gonna change that just in case.
Temp was in the red only used it for about 10 miles at constant 40-70 mph speeds and didnt thrash it because of the heat and the short journey.
Whilst it was cooling it let off steam via the header tank!!
GUZZLER and SASSY, your gonna have to set up a premium rate helpline for me soon, i think im cursed

Not yet we're going to get it apart at the weekend. Just looks like the fan isn't cutting in as I bridged it out and it didn't come on although I could hear the relay clicking over.
I see Matt has wired the fan up differently but I didn't have enough light to work it all out properly so thought it best to go at it properly when I have proper tools and light to work with. Worst case scenario the fans gone tits up which isn't the end of the world in the grand scheme of things
Car still looks stunning though Quite enjoyed having a proper look round it again as I think the last time I got to see it was Central Day last year and that's nearly on us again

I found the realy no probs mate and I know the swicth is fine and the relay appears to be working although I need to get a test meter on it. TBH I think it's just one of those annoying little niggles that make RS ownership great

All sorted now fan is working a-ok and i can drive it again at last thanks to Oranoco and his bro
Still seems to run a little hot tho so gonna look into a couple of small things to help it.
I forget exactly what the bit that was wrong was called but water had got into it and funked the internals

Hi all,
Sorry to jump the thread and I know it's a little old, but I've got a very similar problem with my new S2 RST :-(
It's reading up above the red sometimes :-S Scared to even drive it! It had a split hose, fixed that, still running hot... New gauges incase they were shot, still hot...
Can anyone help out a not so skilled RS owner please
Si

pm me a contact number if you want. I had this prob I had in my Frst. It was a relay that went south and this stopped the fan comming on! The give away for this was the reversing light didn't come on either, the test is to put a DVM (digital volt meter) between the chasis and each pin on the termastat wire, do you get 12/13 volts for either pin? then try dipping the sensor in a mug of boiling water and see if the fan comes on!
please be careful about activating the fan as it will remove bits of finger / wire etc if it gets caught!

Hi mate,
Ow my days I think you've nailed it! I had my mot done last week and the tester told me my reverse lights weren't working! It must be that relay then!!! Thank you so much! A weight lifted to say the least!
Right, where is this relay located? Where can I purchase one from? Going to change it asap!!
Cheers Brendan, top bloke!!

In the Fiesta RST it is a green relay, I got one from a scrap yard for £1! this fixed the problem! Have you got the haynes manual for your car? As it will detail exactly where it is but I think it is behind the batary in the escort. I know it is behind the cubby hole fuse's in the fiesta, near drivers right knee! I have also seen these relays on ebay for £3.
