Default chip or no chip....

hi i have a frst which is pretty much standard bar a full mongoose exhaust, k & n cone filter and some magnecore leads. i have a 165 superchip (ofac) and was wondering whether or not to fit the chip as i have the standard intercooler, although shortly i shall be replacing the radiator (like for like) and was going to get the intercooler flow tested at the same time. any one ran this spec before with any issues and does the chip make that much difference? cheers

Stage 1 chip (165bhp) only allows you to run more boost as the standard frst will only run 7-8psi stage 1 is about 10psi If it was me i would fit it and just give the actuator a turn or 2

Providing you have the right chip for your managment go for it. The 165 chip peps the Fiesta up nicely without over stressing bits

You will need to open the diagnostic port on the base of the ECU and then the chip should just plug straight in. Providing the ignition is off you shouldn't need to disconnect the battery.

It's worth going to a tuner to get the fueling set though as more boost requires more fuel and there are loads of these cars that aren't fueling right because of one reason or another. Don't want anything going pop.

Mind you you do get a nice paper weight.

ha ha ha quality pic...probably an expensive 1 too!! would poor fueling show its self up on idle with the (lambada?) probe in the exhaust or would it have to be "on boost" to determine whether it was rich/lean? sorry i have a little knowledge, but a little can be dangerous!ha ha

To fit the chip you need the car turned off you need to go under the bonnet and undo the EEC which is two 8 or 10mm bolt ( i think) then when the rubber is off there is a 10 mm bolt undo that then go in the car you should be able to pull the ecu down from the inside when the ecu is out you need to open it up think it's 6mm i think bolt's there about 4-5 of theses then you take the ecu out of the case where the chip plug's into you need to clean all the white grease off i allway's use brake cleaner ( tip form one's of the best rs garage's) only spary it on a cloth make sure it's spotless then put it back the way you took it a part never play with the chip when the key has been turned

top advise, so many people just plug the chip in!!!
some ecu's dont connect to the chip properly because the tracks where the chip plugs in are damaged, these can be easily repaired by someone useful with a soldering iron.

as for running the car with a chip, it seems to make the car run smoother & remove a lot of the hesitation, plus the extra power
