Default 1.25 Zetec 4000rpm Flat Spot

Got a Fiesta 1.25 zetec that i use as a daily runner and as soon as i hit 4000rpm it stops accelerating and is like it is struggling for fuel. Likewise, when i change gear and put my foot hard on the accelerator pedal the car jerks like it is being starved of fuel.

I've changed plugs, leads and fuel filter with no joy. Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Pete.

When i hit this flat spot a whistling noise comes from under the bonnet too. Air starvation? What is the air box like on these before the filter, are there any restrictions/moving parts?

Cheers,
Pete.

Disconect the MAF and see what happens. When was the last time you replaced the airfilter? Any rattle from the cat?

Tried coilpack? I know they're common on the Fiesta.

Air filter was replaced a couple of months ago and no rattles from cat. I will disconnect MAF sensor. What should i be looking out for when i do this??

Thought it may be the coil pack but it is bogging down rather than misfiring.

Could the fuel pressure regulator not be doing a proper job?

Cheers,
Pete.

If when you disconect the MAF the problem is solved, the problem is your MAF. Normally it just needs a clean inside.

Disconnected the MAF sensor and problem was solved. Going to give it a clean today and see if that resolves the problem! Thanks Wardy!

Took the air box off to see if there were any restrictions also. There are three plastic boxes coming off the trunking to the filter. Why? What a waste of plastic! Took them all off and blanked the holes.

Will try and give MAF a clean today providing it's not snowing too heavily

Cleaned MAF sensor - was very dirty - and problem completely cured!!!!! Now revs freely right through the rev reange. Thanks Wardy It can be hard to pinpoint problems like these and it's nice to get knoiwledge from a site like thgis rather than replacing everything until the problem is solved which can be very expensive time consuming and expensive.

Cheers,
Pete.
