What to look for when buying an XR2i
After 5 years of wanting to buy one, 2007 is the year its gunna happen. Gunna sell my Focus to get one
The thing thats always put me off is that all the ones ive been to see are shitters and not as described, there's always some smeg advertising his mint XR2i in the auto trader and ill go down just to see its a 1.1 in a poorly fitted bodykit.
But this time im not gunna let it dishearten me and im gunna get one - i promise
I know where to look for rust, round the petrol cap, sills etc.
I know they have problems with the tappets making a tapping sound and this is a cheap fix, isnt it?
What else do i look for?
If i go for an 8v CVH would dropping in a CVH turbo be easier in the future if i ever decide to go down that route? or is the 1.8 the best to go for due it being more reliable etc

I have a mk3 fiesta turbo which has been looked after its whole life and its a good one, i would hate to go on the search for an xr2i which has been used daily from day 1 you will have to get right underneath for an inspection of the floor, pretty much want the carpet out to check, also in the boot around the turrets and behind both bumpers, then theirs bushes that wear rapidly, worn engines, etc etc.... keep the focus these fiesta's unless really looked after are a bad choice of car.

Got an rs1800 myself, i used to have a 2i lovely cars too, that rotted really bad around the fuel cap area the rest of it was o.k. tho, so I think you should concentrate looking for any rust issue's first.
I had a look at a few before i got mine and you will come across a lot of shitters when looking.
best of luck with the search.

Had 2 Fiesta turbos and 2 XR2i's and one RS1800.
They're GREAT cars, never had one in bad nick, as long as the owner who's had it has stuck his hands up the arches and cleaned the shit out near the filler cap through it's life you'll get no rust at all.
Sell your focus and get an XR2i 16v, fantastic little car!
