I dont own a fiesta but ive seen a number of times on here, aparently its common on the fiesta for the oil return pipe off the turbo to choke up when the oil is cold and thick (ive also seen how long, bendy, and thin a FRST oil return pipe is so i can believe it) I believe there is a big oil return conversion which is meant to sort the problem.

Its worth checking its not just blocked aswell....aparently this is also common.

Basically the oil all builds up in the return pipe and cant drain away quick enough so it gets forced out of the seals causing the smoke, but obviously once warmed up the oil is thinner and drains away quicker. IMO you would be better to try this, and if its not this its still a worthwhile mod.

good point, ford sell a braided hose instead which replaces the standard oil return, however you will need a threaded insert for the block that the oil return threads on to, this is a problem as ford sell the hose but not the insert i was lucky enough to get one off some1 off here but they are hard to find

Convert it to T3 if it's knackered turbo seals. It's a nice easy enough DIY job. I done mine with a mate over a weekend and we weren't hurrying at all, plenty of pizza and beers

Actually I spent more on the Pizza and beers that weekend than on the parts to do the conversion

Oddly the £30 second hand turbo only last 20 mins but it was only meant to be a temporary measure until the spangly hybrid T3 arrived

Was gutted when the elbow pipe failed and oil pissed everywhere, £30 from Fords

T3 conversion all in stands me at under £800 and when you think a standard exchange T2 is £700 anyway

LOL i had a feeling the pizza and beer would of cost more, just had a feeling.

I wouldn't even entertain fitting a second turbo that was that cheap, sods law. That said the turbo on my car now i paid £50 for, had to change the exhaust housing, had the usual cracked wastegate (T3), you get lucky sometimes, it was spot on, but while it was off the road i re-built it anyway because i have no idea how old it was/mileage, and seeing as the engine was re-built, thought it would be worthwhile and the service kit didnt cost a fortune.

I knew it was knackered when I got it but as I didn't fancy trial fitting with a brand new turbo using a cheap and cheerful on ethat didn't matter what happened to it made sense and I also used it then as an exchange against the replacement . It was never intended to be use on the road with the cheapo. Do a job right the first time I say

Its worth giving them all a once over blocked breathers too will cause smoke, although probably more once warm than anything. I reckon its the turbo return personally, or failing that oil seals on the turbo

That i cannot answer im afraid as i said in the first post i put on here ive only heard of the fault, i dont actually have a fiesta so i cant be too specific. It should be fairly obvious if its blocked though.

Well do you have a braided oil return that screws on to the block?

Will have to look in the morning. Do I just have to unscrew it and remove it, clean it out and fasten back on?

i wouldnt mate cnut of a job i did it too mine and made no difference.i had this problem with mine and sorted it for ages but still do sometimes think its the cold weather.first check your breather system isnt blocked i put a erst breather filter on mine.buy an engine flush carry out an oil change filter efl500 from ford and use quality oil normally takes 5w40 fully synthetic but in this cold weather might be a bit thin im using 10w40 fully synthetic at mo.i think your prob could be the oil return from turbo it curves over the exhaust not allowing a straightforward drain to the sump and any oil which hasnt drained properly stays in this pipe when the engine is switched off ,builds up backing up into the turbo and when you do start the engine hence blue smoke.there is a mod available for about £150 where they make the pipe go straight down to the sump.good luck

yes thats the 1 and also theres 1 which goes from the right hand side of rocker cover down to the block.take that pipe off and poke a long thin screwdriver down the block to check its not blocked.

possibly mate replace it with an erst 1 about £15 from ford mate.i wouldnt say this is the cause of the smoking but its obviously not meant to be there.
