just fitted roll bar setup to a mk4!!!!!!!!!

just fitted it today
anyone seen one like this before?
supposed to be a ford rally item, it uses rs1600i roll bar and tie rods on a thick alloy special cast subframe to clear the mk4 cradle.
i love it, :D :D

Cries, been searching for one fo these for absolutely ages

Al Bags 17-08-2005 10:49 PM

Well ... Can't say I didn't tell ya James ;)

But you're still better off gettin rid of that fuckin cradle :top:

James Raby 18-08-2005 04:10 AM

Tell me what I gotta do then

16vzetec 18-08-2005 07:59 AM

you gotta fit mk3 engine mounts somehow.
if the mk4 box has the 4 bolt pattern on the front then it may work but off hand i think it hasnt got 4 bolt holes

James Raby 18-08-2005 08:28 AM

Out of interest, where you get it?

James Raby 18-08-2005 02:11 PM

If the roll bar misses the gearbox cradle, I can fit it right?

i got it last year off some guy, he said it was built for ford rally cars years ago, maybe turbo technics made them for ford!
as for fitting a mk3 item, i recon you could just fit about 3/4" spacers under the cast part of the rollbar setup to clear the cradle.
but the proble may be lining up the bolt holes to the chassis, but its not rocket science.
did you buy that one off ebay?
looked a bargain to me, i think you can use mk4 escort power steering rack clamps to hold the bushes on!

James Raby 19-08-2005 09:57 AM

Come off e-Bay yeah, regards to bushes, just gonna ring Ford about em

16vzetec 19-08-2005 10:04 AM

James Raby 19-08-2005 10:07 AM

I got ARB bushes from Brooklyn Ford Kidderminster last year ;-)

If you have any troubles with ANY Ford RS parts, Roger Pitts at the Redditch RS Dealer will be able to get them if they are available 08453459100

He was a legend when I needed a few odds and sods for mine. What he doesnt know about RS parts isnt worth knowing :top:

Al Bags 19-08-2005 06:58 PM

All dealers would come through us to locate, or sometimes source, or obtain Technical Info. Bushes aren't too much of a problem, and can be substituted. Unfortunately, the situation has now changed drastically, mainly due to the Boreham stuff going on. There are now proper "channels" to use ;)

I just managed to obtain the last two 1983 RS Tie-rod ends in the world (Ford stock anyways) from Spain!

Good info. Deffo worth keeping Rogers Number tho....I was told he is the parts contact for the RSOC and the BEST person Nationwide to locate in stock RS parts.
