Question 1.3 MK5 swap RS2000 N7A

Hi, i´m new here and i´m from Portugal. I have a Escort mk5 with a 1.3 HCS engine. I just made the decision to start a project car with it. I fitted a cheap coilover kit to start and it handles like crazy! But obviously i need more power, so I thought it would be a good idea to bet on the N7A engine from the RS2000. What advices can you give me about the N7A swap?

It's not a difficult swap, but I would recommend buying a complete RS2000 and swapping all of the bits over (if you really want to keep your original shell that is, otherwise just buy and use the RS!). Using a donor car should mean you have everything you need.

That being said, I would also look at the Zetec option, as parts are more common. A 2.0 Zetec isn't far off an RS2000 engine in standard trim, and there are lots of tuning parts available. You could also consider a 2.0 Duratec from a MK6 Fiesta ST. Obviously it would be a bit more complex to fit but, once it's done, you have a much lighter engine (good for handling) and more tuning options.

I really like the N7A engine, but have noticed that it is getting harder to source parts for them now, while Zetecs and the like are more plentiful, so it's worth thinking about.
