abs warning light on.....but i have no abs!!! possible engine swap??
i have a 2001 55 van. when i bought it - it had white clocks from a petrol ford. the glare off the dials tended to distract me........so i swapped them back to diesel van ones. the ones i put in were off a 2000 75 TD van. i owned this van and stripped it for parts. now the abs warning light is constantly on.
i can not see a logical reason for this.
i can tell you - the engine in the 55 is a TD....it has been swapped - the v5 says the van is a D. i am not sure which ford it is out of........
i do know that: i did not know the dials in my van had an ABS light on them - till i swapped them. spent 5 years driving round looking at em in my 75.
in this time i also found answers to mechanical problems off you knowledgeable lot here. i know you know about swapping engines. please help.

was late when i posted the above. i have a more sensible head on me today and cant see why a different engine would effect the ABS light.
i can tell you that putting a fuse in the slot for ABS made no difference. can anyone tell me if there is a relay on top of the fuse box for the ABS, would this be the cause of the fault?

me again! my post has had no replies - so i thought i would add another to try and stop it feeling lonely.
i think the problem is the fuse box is out of an escort car that had ABS. after reading ABS posts i went looking for the relays that control the ABS. there were some on top of the fuse box by the pedals. i thought it curious that ABS relays were present on a van without ABS. further investigation revealed that 1 of the plug points on the base of the box does not have the corresponding wires to fit in. i assume these are the ABS system wires.
i realize it is a bizarre problem that many may not have encountered hence no replies. still an MOT failure - blimin annoying and the multi tool is coming out at the weekend......i dont fancy taking the dials appart to get to the ABS bulb - i will carefully cut thru the top of it just above the bulb and hope it is accessible. any ideas if this will work????
