ok cut longstory short
dvd burner was burning uneven on disks & getting errors

so got a new one pioneer dvr-09 and new 250g HD AS ITS FORMAT
TIME pc keeps getting critical errors all the time

but need to save 60gigs worth of stuff before format

took out the old pioneer dvd writer and put in the new one with JUMPERS
on slave ..
booted it up pc just kept on bleeping one long bleep no
moniter screen fook all

SO decided to replace the old burner and try burn the 60gig off then pass
it onto my mate to sort the system out

NO now it wont recognise the old burner ...just shows my dvd reader

tried system restore ..WONT HAVE IT

tried update drivers ..UNIT NOT FOUND

but the fooker ejects the tray out SO POWER SUPPLY is there

heres the hard bit

pcs got 2 HDS @ THE MO

1----120G
1-----40 G

but runs xp pro & win 98 on the same 120 hdrive partition you get a 30sec
countdown which system to use ..

HOW CAN I RESTORE THE BURNER TO GET THE INFO I WANT OFF...
im sure its a easy answer just carnt figure it out
i thought xp was plug and play but it wont find the burner and i have no
driver disk for it well pissed off

Can you try the writer in your mate puta ? The writer may have died ?

Hello m8,
Right, are you saying that you're original DVD Writer is no longer being detected by your system as soon as it's powered on ? i.E. you go into the bios, and auto detect hard disk's and it doesn't find it on the slave channel ? And this is the same with the new burner ?

Does the burner not detect on any IDE channel ? Have you tried changing the IDE cable ? You don't need any drivers for the drive, it is simply plug and play.

to start with, dont use master/slave... set em all to CABLE SELECT... you dont need to do master/slave on anything nowayds (cept if its really shite)

then make sure its being detected properly in the BIOS

On cable select, how does the order of priority go in detecting the drives ? Never used it, I prefer to tell my pc what to do, rather then the other way round

sorted it in my haste to throw the old writer back in the jumper

ones a 120
new ones a 250
still wanna split the master hdrive need 20gig win98se for a reason
can a 20gig partition be robbed off a 250 drive with win xp pro used as master
dont wanna make his life 2 hard
