Yeah as said just make sure you set it to remove the gory stuff and it will be fine.
Apparently tho loads people complained about the airport scene where you go in and shoot loads of innocent people haha. But you dont actually have to shoot them if you choose not too but the other guys will kill them anyway

The only thing i'd be concerned about is the chat in the game lobbies if he goes online.
It can get pretty bad at times with racism/swearing etc, fine for an adult but at 8 years old it might be a bit heavy duty.

Can't say I'd want a little 'un playing with it myself. Not for the violence side of it, more just that I think it's a bit of a waste of time. I'd much see them playing with Lego or something like that. I think stuff like that is much better for building on the creative skills and helping them work out how things work and stuff. I think a lot of these games just melt your brain a bit.
My uni is very much computer based outside the engineering, and is just full of computing students, and computer games design students. I live with one too, and he barely leaves his room, just places COD or WoW, stuff like that, not interested in anything else at all.
After seeing so many people like that here at my uni, that have obviously grown up in this generation of consoles and things, it just puts me off even more, most of them are just total degenerates with no social skills what so ever, and that would concern me tbh

I wouldn't want my 10 year old playing it, it's an 18 for a reason, mate. Online is VERY offensive. So, if you're happy with your son getting called all the names under the sun then go ahead But he'll learn some fancy new words, I can promise you that much.

ive grown up on games.living near southend i spent alot of my youth in arcades and on consoles at home.never done me any harm.but i was brought up right and im pretty clued up and always have been.the only downside i see is as said, the swearing but if im honest i bet he hears as much at school.
mute it online and take the gore out and he will be fine.ive grown up shooting, stabbing, throttling all sorts of stuff in games and havent done it to anyone in real life
that didnt need it lol

I let my 8 year old play it with no problems, I used to have toy guns when I was younger, pretending to shoot all sorts during role play, now that I am older I am still into guns, but i dont go about shooting people.
Yes mw2 can be verbaly challenging online, but half the time I dont think he bothers to listen to what is being said, he has never once said any swear words to me or his mum.

thanks for all your input guys ,at this point im going to get it for him for his birthday on the proviso we will monitor his behavior and if it looks like its affecting him in any way the game will be confiscated.
he will not be aloud online at any point ,this will be the basis he is allowed to play the game .
again thanks everyone as im completley out of touch with todays games,so your opinions were much appreciated
cheers james

Buy a headset, switch it on and put it on mute, that way the little fella can play online and still hear the game effects but have the bonus of not having to listen to the clowns you get talking on there
