CRC Error's When Unzipping Programs

I've just done a clean install and my computer is still giving me CRC errors after i've downloaded some programs and uncompressed them in an attempt to install them.

So far, I've downloaded a few different versions of Nero Burning Rom and Adobe Photoshop, both are trial versions downloaded straight from the developers website.

I assume it's a hardware issue?

Cheers, Tom.

a CRC i a bit like a check digit, the PC does some maths and can work out of the file is corrupt or not.

if youre getting CRC errors, then the files youre downloading are corrupt.

WHY theyre corrupt is another matter tho. its normally when downloading from a shit source (ie you download a shit file) nowadays for a file to get corrupted in transit its quite rare

I've downloaded Photoshop from Adobe's website and Nero from Ahead's website. What's the chances that the manufactures have duff copies on there? :?

Also, just downloaded Acrobat Reader v7 and thats got a checksum error as soon as I tried to open it.

Dunno mate, can't help you with that :(

But if you whack the thread up in the Computers and IT forum you might get some answers ;)

I've never noticed the I.T section. Put this thread up in there, cheers. :top:

heard of it before and down to either a failing power syupply of ram

at high transfer speed like when extracting a file your power supply starts to falter under the added strain and that where the errors start to happen .. same goes for ram .. i had the problem my self and turnt out to be the power supply .. i replaced it and all is good

Jim Galbally Apr 1, 2006 09:36 AM

ive never heard that before

What exactly is the power supply?

I've got 768mb of ram, surely thats enough?

thats very odd number :?

Can't honestly see how a failing power supply would give a crc error when unpacking an executable file ??

Download avg anti virus free edition from www.grisoft.com and try that :top:

I've wiped windows and done a clean install. Still got the same problem. I've tried removing each stick of ram and seeing if it made any difference but it didn't.

It must be a hardware issue, but I can't work out what?

DanRSturbo Apr 6, 2006 08:35 PM

What are you using to unzip the application ?

Escy Apr 7, 2006 11:19 PM

It the standard de-compression thats built into the installer. Basically, I d/l Nero, double click the Icon and it throws up errors as it's extracting the files.
