Default Mini John Cooper Works 210 -R53

Mini Cooper S R53,

Fords have always been my 1st port of call but anyone who loves driving cant ignore a mini especially one thats been upgraded by the John Cooper Works team, 210hp at base but quite easy with a few subtle mods to sneak upto around 220ish, restores your faith in driving when little rockets come along like this, mines in BMW Pure Silver and was lucky to come accross this with such high spec, with upgrades like the Recaro Seats & R56 jcw super sized brakes, currently sat on 18" oz superturismos, good fun toy

I actually really like these. Worked for BMW when they were released and the guy who ran the demonstrator got a plug in chip of some sort and I loved that little car, took that out a lot and had lots of fun

My wife has one I use. I fitted some bits (17% pulley, intercooler, exhaust etc...) and it made 221bhp. Also fitted an LSD ‘box and it’s a lot of fun to drive.

without a doubt or your hanging onto the wheel like a madman keeping it in a straight line, as I drove one of the gtt ones without lsd and it was a wake up call to thinking thank god mine has it and that was just 190hp

My sister and her bellend partner had one of these minis. They reckon they fuel gauge went down quicker than the speedo went up. They said theres was shite on fuel.

I remember driving one of these when they first came out, albeit the regular Cooper S rather than the JCW. Was a lot of fun and, like you say, they make a great noise. The JCW ones sound even better with the different exhaust etc.

Good fun little cars and getting to be a bit of a bargain now.

your not wrong prices on the jcw ones are clmibing and nows really the time to buy before they go all tourist, and if they have all the goodies from the options list your on a winner, bought mine as toy but in recent months demand has been growing and could prob double my money if I sold now, the jcw ones do have a better head, air intake combined with the exhaust and the works remap etc like you say makes a world of difference

I know you can't really compare them but to me I still love the original Coopers S.

A superb example.

Rust prevention has never been a priority unfortunately on most British cars of that period Steve and combine that with the salty shit that goes on our roads in winter is the reason for so few surviving. The one in my photo was one of the best I have seen. It's in the Haynes Motor Museum.

I remember going to look at those with my mum when they were new. She liked it, but didn't think it was worth trading in her Mini Sprite for one - shame!

Cheers Martin it is a hoot when out on the road really does restore your faith in driving and grins, my daughter had the r56 cooper s jcw which was more refined but was forever spending on it with repairs which became tedious so now she has a merc lol
