Hi mate,

Likely your right it will be the temp sender. It is located near the thermostat housing it is a thin peice of wire with a rubber boot on the end that push's onto the head.

The rubber boot melts over time and causes a crappy connection. Had this with my old one, put another connector on and it was fine.

I'd check that first
