Although it is likely to be a clutch related problem there have been instances of the incorrect grade /inferior quality gearbox oil being used from the factory.

A well known manufacturer had an issue with this a few years back when many of their supermini's were suffering the same symptoms as yours. The factory recommended fix for this was replacement of the gearbox oil, it worked!

New oil is cheaper than a new clutch or box and could be a cost effective first port of call, at the very least draining the gearbox oil will enable the mechanic to look for metal particles in the oil - indicating gearbox wear.
