Default American BHP vs European BHP

Is there any difference to the way the above is measured?

Having a discussion with a mate of mine who’s right into his Impreza’s, he reckons that the yank Impreza builds make a few more hundred BHP than what is achieved over here (obviously different spec turbo)

He thinks that the uk isn’t capable of building engines to the same power level as over there, he spoke to his engine builder and after discussing a big spec’d engine, he was shocked that the builder says it was only good for 750hp, he thinks over in America they’d run it at 1000.

Im not convinced, I says either they measure in a different unit, talk shit or generally make the power but last 5 minutes.

I have noticed stupid power levels quoted for Honda Civics and even Zetec/duratec engines, rivalling what a YB has made over here and that is a closed deck siamese block vs open.

Would like to hear your thoughts.
