I can't work out the actual reason for the switch and raising the idle??

Other than when starting from cold the switch has to be up, and the car will start and idle at 2000rpm.

Then drop to 800/900ish when warm, but if you touch the accelerator it will go back upto 2000rpm.

But once warm I put the switch in the down position, so it idles as normal.
