I dont see why it would cause controversy, without any doubt at all the answer they have said is correct is exactly correct.

The piston drops, the pressure in the cylinder decreases and therefore the pressure from the atmosphere pushes air into the cylinder.

Couldnt be more straightforward IMHO, its just basic Physics.
