I would not use T1R's if you want outright grip, ace tyre I use them but not the grippiest, I would go dedicated dry road tyre AO48 etc, this would make a massive difference to grip, but obviously be scared of puddles.
Have you thought about corner weighting ?

Problem with that is like you said as soon as the Yoko AO48's hit the water i will be in trobble and it is just as likley to piss down all summer as it is to be red hot

corner weighting is defo somthing i will be getting done once the cars all together with all the bits on it, i remember one of the mags doing a feature on a firm that does it but it was a good few years back now and i cant remember who they was

Im sure with a bit of hunting about i could find a specialist in this...

still cant justifie a cage at the mo tho
