v8 I think, really easy to do as far i'm aware. Was keeping an eye on ebay for one to stick a v8 in but they were going for more than i'd hoped.
Doesn't really sound like a V8 though? I was thinking more of a big CC motorbike engine as it seems to rev pretty high and the gearing is very close.
