Best idea I ever heard was of some guy fitting a 9V square battery terminal, and wiring it direct to the solenoid for the door. Then he hid the terminal somewhere on the car (I have a feeling it in was the wheel arch liner attached to the repeater loom)

When the main batt goes he fits a battery and it pops the door.
