Default Which is better for traction, R888 or R888R??

Which one is better for outright traction on the road, as in putting power down, not cornering and road holding, R888 or R888R?

Or is there not gonna be much difference?

They only seem to come in medium compound as well....

Cheers Paul

I really doubt there would be much difference between them given the number of variables.

Car/engine setup would play a bigger part than choosing between those.

A friend of mine is in the mr2 cup and gone from r888's to r888r's, they recon they perform very similarly. The main difference being the R888R's have a much better wear pattern, so should last a fair bit longer.

Arent the R888R now the road legal version of the R888 thanks to some new euro law? I am pretty sure that is why they launched them, this would indicate that they are more road specific but it may just be down to them being able to comply with something the R888 can no longer hit.

If they wear better then they are probably a harder compound I would have guessed?

The R888's were road legal.
I used to run them.

I'm guessing the r888r's are just a freshened up revised version??

They refer to it on their site but I could only see the one grade in the sizes I was looking at, you may need to speak to them or a good toyo dealer

And they still are road legal.

The issue if you can call it that is the arseholes in the EU, that because of noise/wear/efficiency bullshit if the tyre cannot meet their goals...it cannot receive an E mark and hence is not allowed to be sold for road use...which isnt the same as allowed to be used on the road.

But obviously not allowed to be sold for it's main and intended market does pose problems, hence the new tyre meets these silly new rules...for now.
Those are the only reasons the tyre changed

No I believe it is the construction, the r888's tend to balloon in the center, where as the r888r's don't and stay more square - so the center wears alot more linear with the outsides, rather than the r888's where the center will wear quicker than the outsides (keeping a close eye on air pressures at all times ofcourse!)

Ah, makes sense. My old Michelin pilot cup sport 1's used to do that and go up by about 8 psi when warm on track so I had to set the pressures as 32psi HOT, if not you lost grip and wore the centres.
