Im no auto electrician the fan has stopped working on my Y reg fiesta 2001,i have the 1.3 endura engine. The thermostat is working ive checked that and right now ive rigged the fan up so its on all the time.Ive checked fuses and all seems ok.Any ideas on what it could be.Some say the fan is ecu controlled.

I think that may have a switch opposed to being ECU controlled, what makes you think it's not working?

Having it run constantly is not a good idea.

After doing some digging the fan is definatly ecu controlled. My heater was blowing cold so ive bypassed that for now and now im getting hot air, perfect for the cold weather. The valve was stuck half closed on the HSV .I found a coolant switch which lives under the inlet manifold when i disconect it the fan kicks in after 10 seconds or so.I took a voltage reading from the coolant plug and im getting 4.75 volts. i suspect the switch is at fault. The fan feed i made so its on all the time ive got rid of that now.Ive just got the coolant plug unplugged for now and the engine managment light is now on and the fan will kick in as said before. It will do now till i can get a coolant switch.

If the fan is controlled by the ecu it won't have a fan switch, it's the temperature sensor for the ecu which will vary resistance depending on engine temp. What is the gauge on the dash doing? If the heater control valve is buggered it can cause the engine to overheat.

I'd put a new (genuine) heater valve and temp sensor on it and go from there.

As you have unplugged the CTS, you are now running LOS.

This is not good, and it will badly.

Have you checked the fuse and that you have power to the fans?
