Default Ignition problem solving

So!
Yet another problem I'm trying to solve on my MFI XR3I.
This time it's not a biggie but just annoying really.
Recently I've noticed a spluttering or hesitation if you like, in the lower rev ranges. I've had the idle and fuel set up now so I know it's not that and also there are no air leaks which I can find so it has led me to belive it is on the ignition side of things.

I first tested all the HT leads at each end with a multimeter and found one of them had a different reading (on chamber one) so I fitted a new set and the problem was slightly less noticeable. Then I changed the dizzy and rotar arm and again it was slightly better especially on start up but it is still there. So next I'm going to look at the ignition amplifier/module and also the ignition coil but I wanted to know,
is there a way of testing these before forking out money on new ones (especially the ignition amplifier!).

The amplifiers usually just fail.

Have you checked the timing, good plugs?

Ht leads will have different readings as their different lengths. There is usually a limit on max resistance.
