Default !!!!HELP!!!!! escort rs turbo no spark? !!!!HELP!!!!!

basiclly was driving and it just cut out all dash lights on and would not start. Pushed it to side of road got mate to crank it over and we have no spark at all.

Checked the coil pack on another car and it works fine no problems.

Swapped distributor over and this is also working aswell on another car

changed the main coil wire that works fine aswell.

any ideas as to what it will be?

could it be the throttle position sensor on the throttle boddy or is it gonna be one of the ecu's?

Lastly folks do s2 turbo's have ignition relay's?

cheers in advance hope u can help

bad earth and that would deffo stop it starting altogether? what if i put an earth from the battery on it to another cars battery earth point would that tell us anything.

its an intermittent fault cos it happened about a week ago aswell, but towed it home and tried starting it and it started up no problems.

any more ideas?

probably not. just a case of testing all the earths in the engine bay. i had this problem with my series 1 and it turned out to be the earth on the wipers and that stopped it not getting a spark. its deffo worth trying all the earths b4 you start spending loads of cash

HI,
With the ignition on the + wire at the coil, is there battery voltage at this wire
(primary) the other wire - green, goes from the coil, to pin1 on the ignition ecu, and as its split from the coil the other end goes to the rev counter
and then to the injection relay under the drivers side dash purple,at pin 1.? check all for continuity, the +from the coil goes to the ignition switch.also check plug's of the ecu's make good contact, and battery terminals are tight, the green wire from the coil, in the loom it passes the front crossmember so check in this area it is not chaffed on metal, and check any brown wire to the chassis are tight, earths. have you tried another ecu (silver) s2 wiring changed slightly over time

have not tried another ecu. Its a s2 turbo if that makes any difference. The rev counter doesn't work, but the car has always been working without the s2 rev counter working.

cheers

HI,
CHECK 1st with the black wire + at the coil removed and with the ignition on
you should have battery voltage if not check the wire at the ignition switch is sound, if you have volts then trace the green wire to make sure it has no breaks any where, if this is ok then check any earths you can see, there is some on the inner wing towards the front of the car plus some at the wiper motor.and as above
battery contacts and ecu plugs,as you have tried coil, and dizzy, maybe ecu silver one.

i would check those wires coming from the coil mate, mine done as u say, and those small thin wires from the coil run along the cross member and my intercooler and worn through the wire causing the voltage to drop and knock out the spark!!

ok will have a look at this green wire, but before all that am gonna just simply try the silver ecu and see if thats sorts it. This problem is intermittent, has happened before an was fine for 8 days and exactly the same thing has started again.
even replaced the ballast resistor and still no change.

cheers

If its intermittent and the rev counter has never worked i would be looking at the green wire as mentioned above.

If you connect a testlight to the battery positive and then remove the green trigger (-) wire from the coil and put the other eng of the testlight in this. When you crank the car over the testlight should flash. If not then you know the wire (or ecu) is at fault. You could pull the rubber boot back on the ecu connectr and test the wire there, if its ok then there is a break somewhere in between.

This happned to a mates erst, rarther than pulling the loom apart all i did was cut the green wire at either end (ecu & coil) and run a shorter wire between the two around the back of the battery just to get it going again.

ok going to try replacing this wire and see if it sorts it out. tried crnaking it over with a headlight bulb an positive an negative on it. Had positive to one leg on bulb negative to the - on coil, turned it over and got nothing. Also tried new ecu that works, but still nothing.

any more ides

cheers

As i said above, test to see if the ECU is pulsing an earth down the green wire (at the connector to the ECU). If it is and its not reaching the coil then the wire is broken - replace the wire or locate and repair the break.

with my electrical tester i put +on battery and put negative on pin 1 of the ecu plug, i found it gave reading of 1.3 most of the other pins had 12.8 which was good battery signal.

You would be better of with a 12v testlight, connect the test light clip to the positive (+) on the battery, put the spike of the testlight into pin 1 on the ignition ECU with the connector connected to the ECU (remove the plastic top cover on the connector).

Crank the car over and the light should come on/flash.

as above thats how i found my wire was broken while cranking with a test light, that wire is just chucked on rs turbos and not normally taped within the loom hence why it breaks after 15 years of motoring!!.

HI.
As i said 1st about the wiring checks especially the green wire, if you listen ??you
will sort this problem, if you get joy at these wire's then check also the wire's from the dizzy and the ecu i think pin 20, 15, 7 ,

Both were cut rin connectors fitted and 2 screws holding them on.
