I think that fireproof tape will just stop the tape catching fire but would not protect the plug from the heat. Go to Demon Tweeks or Motorsport tools site and look at heat reflective products and wrap it in that. Also try and move - re route - re wire the plug away if possible, surely just needs a small extension?
You could consider heat wrapping the manifold or better still Zircotec coating (pricey)

I've just done a fair bit of heat protecting under the bonnet as I've just changed my exhaust manifold
Heat wrapped the manifold
Heat protective matting on underside of bonnet

Heat protective sleeving

Still need to reroute the bonnet release cable, but for now it's wrapped with the sleeving stuff

the heat proof wrap is the best thing to be honest, it will reflect the heat away from what needs to be protected and as it's a slide on thing you can simply remove it if it's going to be moved out of harms way later
i might have had 3 layers on my clutch cable...
