Default What is the right gearbox to put in

Hello
I'm am looking for a bit of advise I have a mk1 escort 1300L 1974 but soon to be putting a 1600 GT in but am unsure of what gearbox to go for. Have been told I can run it on the 4 speed but have heard it is better to run it on a 5 speed box can anyone one point me in the right direction on what gearbox Is best for this conversation
Thanks in advance

a 5 speed will be better if you use motor ways a lot, a 4 speed is fine for B roads. If you do a lot of long distance driving, go 5 speed (type 9 box), the 4 speed will be fine if you don't.

You can buy bell housing and adapted plates to fit the Mazda rx8 gearbox, it is smaller and lighter than a type 9, has 6 speeds and is close ratio. These are cheap as chips
