Escort Cosworth - constant idle of 1800rpm
hi all,
I recently bought a 1993 Escort Cosworth. All works well, except for the engine's idle.
The car has a constant idle of 1800rpm (warm - cold, makes no difference).
Any ideas what could be causing this and more important, how to resolve this? I have no knowledge of these 'modern' cars
regards,
Ruud

Air leak, plain and simple.
Whether that's the throttle open too far, a hose missing, idle valve not working correctly...it's all the same thing.
has nothing to do with age of the car, air leaks can happen on any age of car with same outcome.

10K+ Poster!!
I had this and it was the inlet manifold seal leaking, they can even breath through the bolts if loose. I would strip out the inlet side and build it back with all new seals etc. Also look up how to set the throttle position sensor and idle control valve.

Thanks for the replies.
Had a go with some Carb Cleaner around the inlet. No effect though (rise of rpm). Do I need to spray a whole can around the area or is just a good spray sufficient to source any leaks?
If that doesn't work, I would like to set the throttle properly. Anyone a simple step by step guide?
