Default very very! strange coolant issue with cosworth YB

new water pump, thermostat, new alloy rad, new hoses, new header cap, new head gasket, head all tested, matrix checked ok, bled the system numerous times, no blockages, but the coolant will not flow the water always stays freezing cold in the header tank it never pressurises or boils over and the temp gauge goes through roof, any professionals who can crack this issue?? thanks. seriuosly i challenge anyone who can figure this!

If there is no flow I would try swapping out the water pump first and replace the thermostat.

Frustrating problem but will be simple. Why the change of this lot? I assume you know the head gasket is good?

It will be something silly. You will need to re check everything, maybe the wrong stat or something

It may sound simple, but make sure the thermostat is fitted the right way round.

Take a pic and post it, I might be able to help but need to see the engine, especially the pump

Have a look inside the main hose feed, yours has the correct impeller, but not the right housing (not always important).

Can you see right inside the hose flange to the spindle?

That pump should be fine.

I had one years ago that was not cast through, was no flow passage into the pump.

Is the rest of the cooling system standard?

Got to be worth a new pump just to rule it out? You can always sell one if it isn't that

Some times with these thing you just need to change part by part.

The Cossie housing has a bleed screw so all east you can rule out an airlock there

Not sure if it's poss on the yb engine but have you put the head gasket on up side down and it's blocking the water ways from the head to the block

Few things to check, stat is right way round, stat works and isnt faulty, try putting in cup of boilled water and see if it opens for rule of thumb, or putting old one back in if u have it, check for absructions / blockages in hoses /system ,or sender unit is faulty maybe and telling u engine is overheating when its not , have u got a itemp probe to check ,infra red gun to check engine temp , hop this helps ?????

mate the water isnt flowing the water stays ice cold in the header tank and there is no return flow at all.. its not a broken gauge. the stat is also in correct.

Some engines youll get flow into header tank only when the stat is opened, might be worth checking the stat is actually working and not faulty as the symptoms sound like a sticking closed stat, if thats all ok do a snif test next

one thing i will add is that the brand new water pump does not spin freely. it isnt making noise/leaking or wobbly. if i try to spin in quickly and let go it stops if you know what i mean.

Ok so your happy with, pump , and stat, hoses , air locks , so maybe check for an obstruction in new rad .? Keep an open mind and substitue things for known good parts if still available mate

Blocked/corroded pipe on the side of thermo housing which is the flow to the turbo and then to header tank.

Just a thought.

just to throw something else in here which i forgot to mention, the header tank im using is a CVH with the one bottom hose coming out and joining the t-piece in the lower rad hose. and the return coming from the turbo going to the small top outlet, also ive noticed the height of the header tank is lower than that of the cossie one. any idea if this would affect the flow?

The top connection on that header tank has a weird fitting sticking out that looks like it would stop the flow back in, can you post a pic of the engine bay?

That is a reinforcement so that the plastic doesn't collapse when you tighten the jubilee clip up IIRC
