Just put my engine back in, but I have a problem with the rev counter jumping, what can this be. Please help.

While a mis-fire can be caused by a whole host of reasons, the Rev counter jumping around and going skyward is more than likely the engine loom that is shot, I had an annoying mis-fire on my 4x4 sapphire and after exhausting the simpler and cheaper fixes, plugs leads etc it turned out to be the engine loom that was the culprit. I removed the loom plugs that run along the back of the cam cover/bulk head and had the wires soldered together. This fix lasted about 16 months but ultimately the engine loom had to be replaced
