These are easy to do, even more so if the engine is on the bench.

You will need some timing pins though. Its been a long time since I've done one but I seem to recall you can use drill bits instead of pins for the pulleys. I can't remember if you need need a screw in block pin on these though.

Depending how old it is as well, make sure you change any plastic idler pulleys to metal ones. Again, I can't remember the exact details but the old plastic pulleys breaking up used to cause a lot of these to go to the scrapper.... but that may have been on the older non turbo ones... it has been a long time.

A plate goes in the cam to lock that, a screw in pin goes into the crank on the front of the engine that goes in once a 10mm is removed and I'm sure the fuel pump also as a pin as that's also timed up.

Chris,

That is the case for an Endura E as fitted to the Focus and Connect. The engine is a newer version of the 1.8. Indeed the cam is locked with a flat bar once the rocker cover is off and a block pin for the crank and a pin for the pump. These are part chain, part belt setups with only one very short belt.

The older 1.8's with a separate pump and cam belts needed pins only, you didn't need to touch the rocker cover or lock the cam.

I could of course be wrong as it has been a long time since I did one.
