zetec silvertop turbo problems
Hoping somebody may be able to help I have a 2.0 silvertop zetec in a westfield seiw was running on twin 45 webbers with RL200 cams > I do have a friend with a dyno and we were getting 134bhp @ the wheels we don't get to involved in what the number is !! As long as the numbers are going in the right direction . Anyway I decided I wanted a bit more power so went down the turbo route using a SPA exhaust manifold t3\t4 turbo tubular intake 440 impreza injectors DTA e48 ecu car was mapped yesterday by sitech in rosyth by Simon and very nice guy I must say !!! All went pritty gd not just as much power as I thot but not bad got 172@ the wheels . But im just back from my first track day today and cars terrible seems to take forever to get any pull\boost 5500rpm and just when its starting to get going its time to change gear !!!! im sure there something in my set up that's not right but what ?? I do have a dyno graph but not sure how to post pics but if somebody would like to see it id happily email it to them

Who specced the turbo? sounds like it has a lot of turbo lag possibly too big a exhaust housing on the turbo?
What compression ratio are you running?
I'm no expert but my 2.0zt boosts from 3k ish and holds power all the way through revs.
Edit to add. are the cams suitable for a forced induction engine?

Things don't get as technical as specing turbos lol this is very much a budget racer turbo and exhaust manifold come from a st170 turbo I got as unfinished project so I just used all the doner parts from that really . As in compression the engine is completely standards no decompression plate nothing . i do think the turbo is over sized but dont think thats the problem here ever at full boost nearly 6000rpm its still only just over 170bhp ment to be 7psi spring in wastgate but creeps to about 11psi

i was with him when it was done he did reckoned the late spool up was due to turbo size but surely theres late spool up and then thers mine lol and if this was the prob would we not have a huge curve in power like yours only higher in the rev range ! what is a huge turbo for a 2.0 mine has m12 A/R.50 stamped on it

Yeh I was reading that I just thot wasent looking for huge power would have got away with it on the upside think I may have found my problem the car has an external wastgate with an apparent 7psi spring so I set the wastgate so there was hardly any pressure on it also when I got the Manafold and wastgate there was no gasket so I got some exhaust gasket of ebay and cut it to size but it's realy thick like 2 or 2.5mm so Iv just taken the wastgate off to find that it's set about 2mm below the body of the valve it's self so pretty much it would never be making a seal and I can push it in 2 or 3 mm with a very light push with one finger

Well after reading loads on the Internet it does look like the promlem is my wastgate spring just had no pressure on it ! It was me that put this whole kit together so the buck has to stop with me but I am surprised that the tuner dident notice a prob . After what iv learned in the last 24 hours Id know buy that dyno graph that with a 7psi wastgate spring there has to be a problem with eather the turbo the wastgate or a boost leak . I don't get to 7psi till over 6000rpm then spike at 7300rpm at 11psi and only 133 torque so I'll have the problem sorted tomorrow but it's needing maped again not sure what to do about that iv got 3 choices 1 take it back to Simon at sitech who I do like 2 have a shot my self we do have all the gear dyno and so on or take it to this Roy guy in Kilmarnock
Option 3 I'm sure will get the best from the car but iv got a feeling also the most expensive option

I would defo have a word with Simon, he might be able to help you out.
I'm glad you sound like your on the way to getting some boost through it, should go really well.
Keep us informed with how you get on!

Well I got a chance to give the car a wee run on the dyno today with the spring tightens down a bit more and that is deffy the problem got full boost by 3500 rpm there does apear to be a few new problems tho one is to get the valve to seal the exhaust properly I'm boosting at 11 or 12 psi more than I want !!! The wastgate I think is a cheepo the valve the closes the exhaust isent actually fixed within the valve but the idea is the valve actually seals down onto the Exaust manifold it's self but neither are completely flat so it's never going to have a perfect seal even with plenty pressure pushing down on it not sure how important this is !! Other problem is iv got a blow between the head and Manifold again the prob is the manifold ain't perfecty flat so ordered a thicker gasket hopfuly do the trick . Couldn't give it much of a run in the dyno as the AFR is now all wrong just not sure what to do about this wastgate do some seal within thereselfs or do all seal to the manifold ?

So a bit of an update got a new wastgate fitted as well as boring the manifold hole out from 25mm to about 33mm been trying to call sytec to tell them about the problems and get it back in calling everyday since last wed so over a week and just keeps ringing out eventually got hold of them today but was told simon was to busy to talk to me and car wouldn't be able to get back in till well into next month !!! I then called back 10 mins later asked when I could talk to simon and the guy said he would get him to call me ! But dident ask who I was or take a number !!! Cheers simon great work time to start again so car is now booked in at triplehperformance in irvin in tue coming and to be honest he asked me more about the car and upgrades that had been done in our 5 min phone conversation than Simon did the whole time I was there
