what boost with 803s and chip
ok so I bought my sierra cosworth from a chap that knew nothing about it,
I was given a folder and there are recipts for the following
bosch 803s and chip -32 actuator.
its dynod at 243bhp and running 9psi I thought with 803s and chip it should be able to run 15psi and be able to make 330+
tempted to get a boost controller and give it the 15psi and see how she goes.
thought plz ?
it has t 34+big intercooler so no worries about making the boost or cooling.

10K+ Poster!!
I would take it to someone and get it mapped properly instead of winding up the boost. You need the fuelling correct along with timing. I would get it live mapped and end up with a more responsive and faster car.

chip/tune
ensure chip is of good known origin[msd, collins etc]
check basic engine is up to coping with the upgrade
make sure fuel pump is getting good power supply[nice fresh pump harness helps]-new quality fuel filter and good strong pump
set fuel pressure to chip providers spec[normally standard]
make sure plugs/leads/cap/sensors all a1[plus all connections]
make sure all hoses/clips pipework secure -particularly fpr/actuator related
set co to chip providers spec
set boost to level recommended by chip provider
would recommend not held at load for long untill afr/det checked on road or dyno
people wonder why a tune up /upgrade costs a few quid and they put in a car needing lots of work before any upgrades begin...
9 psi isnt a lot of boost on greens...most run 3x that it would seem
when i firs had cossies in late 80s/early 90s stage 3 was 21psi

i think it was a "safe" option as generic mapping was in its infancy then
for 5 turbos we just used to wind the boost up using the actuator and use pallet banding to help hold the intercooler together[plus unplug the boost protection sensor]-as far as checking the fuelling well erm...we didnt in those days

yes i do-that was when stage 1 was normally a massive 12-14psi lol

Theres was a fella around here had many cossies that every engine had blown. He bragged his chip that he used was a cossie killer.!

Basically, in that mode, I tell the dyno what revs it should allow the engine to accelerate to and then I map that area. When im done, I tell the dyno to allow a rev increase of the engine so i can map the next site.
James in this video just holds a steady throttle to control the load site. IE: James adjusts throttle a little to maintain between 7 and 9 psi of boost (5th red box along on the screen) while I also control the dyno in order to ensure the engine is stopped at the RPM site i want it at. So every time I press the up button, the dyno allows the engine to increase rpm by anything I want from 10rpm to 1000rpm. (Set to 100rpm in that video so 3 presses is 300rpm)
The load and RPM control on our dyno is truly awesome and makes mapping an absolute breeze.
