Default Smart Charge alternator wiring

Managed to get round to wiring my ZT build.


It seems I have a 'smart charge' alternator and after a bit of research it seems they are ECU controlled.


My question is, can these alternators be wired in to run 'as normal' non ECU controlled?


Or are any other types available which will still retain the same mounting bracket, on the back side of a 2.0 black top.

I was told by my electrician that if you remove the plug from the back of the alternator it will work as a normal one but it must be connected via other terminals to the battery

As above will work as normal if you leave the 3 pin plug unattached.

Thanks for the replies so far, what about wiring for the dash light, can one of the pins be used or would that have been done through the ECU originally?
