Tuning guide for mk2 ST
Hi all quick question is there a tuning guide for the mk2 ST I'm after upgrading mine for more power but want to do it in stages instead of just going for a RS lump swap etc etc so from start to max of the standard engine then maybe into big money .
Any help would be great

I had one at 284bhp with minor mods.
It depends on your budget or as I did bit by bit.
Doesn't really matter to much to start with.
I went panel filter and remap.
Cat back with decat
RS clutch (weak point on 2006 models)
RS plug (cheaper than ST)
And got 284 with just that.
Ideally I would of then got turbo down pipe (get new bolts as the originals snap easily)
And intercooler as they are shite! And induction kit.
From there RS injectors and bigger turbo with map to suit.
Someone with better know how may (and please do) correct me if I'm wrong.
Have a look on the STOC as ell. Loads of info on there.

Remap, Turbo back exhaust, Intercooler and induction will see just shy of 300bhp depending on map
I've gone the whole hog and had the full RS turbo conversion on mine

Thanks Carlos
I have already but not fitted
a 3" turbo back exhaust with a de cat
Radtec intercooler
CAIS
So now I'm thinking should I get some RS injectors ready for the map or wait until I have enough funds for the standard RS turbo aswell then do it
Also which is the recommended company for doing the mapping? I read loads about the revo but they don't list much for the ST puma speed do a 320bhp map or with a small turbo upgrade a 360bhp map so I'm in to minds at the moment

Cracked on standard engines that's not good at all I didn't know that well if I decide to refresh the engine or move onto the RS lump at a later stage then it will be done then

One guy seemed to think that they would still run on a cracked liner to an extent (he has owned two STs with a friend still running his old car). I did not really comprehend how that could happen (I guess it the liner had not cracked through completely!), but OTOH they do seem to respond well to tuning when working right.
At the end of the day most engines have issues upon tuning them . I do seem to recall they can crack liners for a number of reasons but that using good oil and ensuring the breather system is working correctly (they have oil filter assembly issues on the earlier cars) can make things awkward. I am sure on VW forums (well, I know) that their engines seem to sound like they will self combust upon looking at them!).
OTOH metal dowels can't hurt .

Any tuned car is a risk but they are safe as houses to a certain power, torque, boost limit isn't exceeded. And well maintained.
Merry Xmas
