56 plate focus 1.8 tdci estate dead on key
Hi folks been lurking for a while and decided to join up as I have a problem and hope to find some pointers.
I'll try and keep it brief so here's the story so far.
Last month I got called out to a non start (I'm a breakdown driver)
Did the usual belts, battery, fluids etc.
Key fob working, dash lights up, red immobiliser light on, turn key to start and light flashes but engine does not crank.
Checked codes and got 13 faults all saying no comms.
Told customer I suspected an ecu failure and recovered him to garage.
The next week I get called to pick up the same car from the garage.
Guy tells me auto electrician says it needs a new dash and because it used to be a taxi with 200k on it he was just gonna scrap it as he'd been quoted £500 just for the parts.
So I bought it off him for 250 quid.
The instrument cluster, ecu and key were sent to BBA Reman for repair, but were found to be working fine when tested.
I've re-fitted them and the car is doing exactly the same as before.
So where to now guys?
The research I've done so far seems to point towards a fusebox or GEM fault, but these can be expensive to buy and I'm not sure yet.
Any advise, experience etc would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Got more time at the Focus, stripped out the fuse box/GEM from under the dash.
Found one of the multiplugs scorched and corroded, tried cleaning it up but the pins on the fuse box were loose and damaged.
So off to the scrappies
Scored an exact match for only £20 !!
Hooked up the new fusebox/GEM and everything works fine
EXCEPT THE IMMOBILISER !
Checked the Haynes manual and it states a new GEM will require re-programming by a dealer/specialist.
Phoned the autoelectrician who says yes he can do it and to call back Monday.
Fingers crossed.....
