no/low oil pressure on fresh build
ive come to the point of getting my fresh built zetec turbo fired up,
firstly,
new forged pistons and rings
eagle rods with arps
acl big ends and mains
built fully with assembly lube
original used oil pump, stripped cleaned and inspected for wear/damage
the engine is ful of oil,
car is fitted with a aftermarket oil pressure gauge and standard rs turbo oil pressure switch too,
my engine breater pipes are off at the minute as im waiting for my new pipes to be delivered
ive removed the spark plugs and span it over to keep load off the new bearings but the idiot light is staying on and i am seeing 6 psi on the gauge,
ive removed the oil filter and its bone dry and got a little worried so in usual dummy out stage ive pulled the sump off wondering if something wasnt right
releif valve in pump is free, all looks good though when i removed the oil pump strainer inside the pump looks dry,
am i being too causcious and will it make enough oil pressure spinning over with no plugs in to turn the light off
ive span it over 4 times 10 seconds each time so far then stripped it
any help is appreciated cheers

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Have you got oil at the turbo feed pipe (turbo end)? If so it's looking good.
Might need a bit longer to get full oil pressure than a few secs of cranking.
Easy for me to say but I would start it.
I hate that first turn of the key after engine work, still after all of these years!
So fully understand you being cautious.

yes i cracked the turbo feed and nothing thats when i was worried and stripped it,
the car is going for the engine management fitting, the full car is done minus ecu and wiring so wanted to make sure everything was sound before i took it as it will go for the first startup there just i wanted to make sure it was 100% ready
i think i should piece it back together try and fill the oil pump via releif valve hole and see where i go from there
i did feel like crying

Pull it round the block on tow with no plugs in see if it goes out...
You'll only need to pull it in second briefly, if a tow won't get the oil light out then you've got issues....

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
You could also try back feeding the pump to help it prime ie get some oil down the off centre port in the oil filter housing .
Also check that your pump scavenge pipe is not wedged to the bottom of the sump when it's installed as that will starve it

All sorted, refitted everything and back filled the pump in every entry exit filled oil filter up and cranked took about a minutes worth of cranking in 15 second intervals but it fired it out the turbo feed and oil light turned off, my gauge was reading 4 and half bar does this pressure seem about right

On the oil pump u will see an Allen bolt at 45 ish degree ( not the straight one, this has the pressure spring in it ) take the plug out an fill with oil and re fit. Crack the turbo feed pipe and spin engine over until oil appears. Job done
