mk6 escort, my reverse gear went missing

used it this morning reversed off the drive fine went to park it and the reverse gear has just gone and I have no idea why, any body have a clue?

its a 1.6 1996 mk6 and ive checked the linkage and gear stick end , so im assuming it must be in the gearbox, all the other gears work fine

sounds like the box has given up mate, although 2nd hand replacements are dirt cheap its the labour charge involved and while its out its always worth dropping in a new clutch
