Ford focus 99 blowers not working
Guys,
I am hoping someone can push me in the right direction.
Last weekend my heater blowers simply stopped working, hadn't had a problem with them before, they literally just stopped.
I read somewhere about changing the heater resistor pack, I did that yesterday but it hasn't done anything. I have looked at a lot of the fuses & they all look ok.
Does anyone have any further suggestions? Any help would be muchly appreciated.
I am not technical, so would need things spelled out in simple terms lol.
Thank you in advance,
Cara

you need to see if your getting power to the resistor,
no power, check fuses/relays
getting power then move to check power at the motor (2 wires, one live one earth)
you will need a volt meter or similar to check power.
Also check the wiring at the resistor (4 pin plug) hasnt melted!!

Thank you.
I think i have a voltmeter somewhere, will go and look. (I have a multimeter ... trying to work out how to use i lol)
How do i use it? Sorry :-( I really am not very good at these sorts of things the first time. Once i have done something, i am fine from then on
Nothing looks melted at the resistor. :-(
Thanks again

Ok,
Checked that there is power going to the resistor and there is.
Next step, motor.
How do i check this one? I can't see anywhere for me to apply the ends of the multimeter to test it ...

is the power coming from the resistor and no burnt/melted plug?
if yes and no melting/burnt wiring
then try pulling the plug off the motor and feed the wiring back out and then check it.

Switch you operate the blower with, it's behind the panel. The radio needs to be removed and the whole panel comes off.
I would remove the motor itself (3 screws) and see if the motor turns freely by hand too.

Thanks.
I tried to get the motor out earlier but one of the screws is stuck :-(
I did manage to get my hand inside the big black surround though & could easily turn the fan.
I tested fuse 64 earlier & that too is ok & has power.
The only bit I couldn't test was the motor for power as I couldn't get it out.
I will try & remove the front panel next weekend & see where that gets me.
Thanks again,
Cara

Ok, I have removed the front panel & taken out the switch. The switch had melted! Ordered a new one, waiting for it to arrive and I have fixed up a temp switch to either be on 4 or off so that I can clear my windscreen in the cold weather. My query now is, this temp switch is getting very hot. I would have thought that changing the resistor would stop the switch heating up, but maybe not. Any ideas why the switch is getting so hot? Any how to fix it? I don't want to have to keep getting new switches each time it melts lol
Thanks again

mine did this you have to go into the fuse box itself and remove the fuse for it you get the electrical diagram in the car manuals tells you where to find it theres LOADS so be careful then you carefully put a new one in and it tells the blower its good to go again and it fixes it

Thanks for the info, but I don't understand how that stops the switch from overheating? I though the fuses blew when they got too much current & all my fuses are fine. Sorry I don't understand?

That is correct, however excess current is not being drawn, hence the fuse does not blow, the problem is heat, the resistor pack is what slows the fan speed, when you create resistance you also generate heat, which is what I suspect causes the switch to melt over a prolonged period.
I remember on the Mondeo this actually caused the wiring to heat up (not good) so much so that a good member who used to reside on here said there was a modified loom available.

Thanks Martin
I will see if there is a modified loom available for my ford then, as my switch has gone again, presuming the same problem again, but haven't got time to check until the weekend.
