Default Distributor earthing

Just finished building a 3dr drift project , it's yb powered and not running cleanly.

I don't seem to have a great /any spark at number four as if I unplug four spark plug I don't get a note change and the disb cap earths /sparks to the inlet manifold,
All other cylinders drop note when unplugged but also hear a clicking sound from dist cap ??

I unplugged the dist multiplug and when I plug it back in the std fuel press reg opens/activates (strange one)on the fuel rail

I changed to a new cap and just swapped over five leads and cap from my running cosworth to double check ???

rob when you pull off the multiplug wont the injectors stop as they get their signal from the phase sensor in the dizzy.

the spark seems a strange one though

sounds like you are just missing a spark from number 4? Try swapping plugs/leads to another cylinder to see if the fault moves. i guess no.4 lead is dead. if you are getting arcing to the inlet manifold.

Tried a full set of leads and cap to no avail

Eng drops in note when plug lead four removed but sounds like proper three cylinder when 1/2/3 removed (or it's actually on 2.5 when other lead removed.

Checked lead four and has spark
Compression on all four is about 120 btw ???

Very strange issue and more puzzling that no one here can diagnose it....

Had a quick look and all looked ok j , will double check tomorrow.
I checked if disconnecting dist multiplug ,eng off ign on would have the same effect on my road car and no fuel press reg click , wonder is it a connections issue ???

Could you try your James...
Btw , when I turn ign on/off I noticed I get the same clicking...

Like I said in your other thread the problem must lie with that cylinder.

As to the spark 'jumping' issue, that is strange, maybe related to the dizzy?

The distributor does not need a ground, it is anyway via being mounted (it would be a different story if breakered ignition) the rotor distributes the power to the leads, which are grounded via the head.

Have you tried another rotor?

Martin
