Curious fuel breather pipe issue
Ford Fiesta, 1.6, Titanium, 09 reg.
When you overfill a tank, sometimes the breather pipe allows a little fuel out. I get this - it happened on an older diesel of mine. But on this car my tank is empty and the garage fuel pump just clicks when I try to fill up, followed by the ejection of a cupful of diesel onto the forecourt. This is a repeatable problem. So, what's going on?

Not Crazy, just Unwell
Sometimes it's the angle of the pump that locks up the pump. I have it with my celica. I have to have the pump practically horizontal but just enough to open the filler catch inside. Works fine then.
Maybe the cars got flu? That's why it's sick everywhere

Thanks for the thought. However...
I know it's a pain to get the angle right on the fuel nozzle - but I have been filling the tank on this car with no problems (and at the very same garage on many occasions) for nearly a year now. I was really hoping it was a display of spectacular incompetence on my part because that would be so much cheaper to fix, but it's not
