Default Xr3 gearbox on escort 1.8d van

Hey guys

I have a escort 75 1.8d. The gearbox has gone and I currently have a xr3 gearbox laying around. I was wandering if it would fit or is there anything I can do to make it fit.

Thanks

Physically it will bolt straight on. The ratios will be different but it will get you back on the road.

Shorter shifts. Diesel boxes are set for torque iirc

Just to double check do you mean you have a xr3i box or a genuine xr3 box as the xr3 had a 4 speed so if fitting this you will need the 4 speed selectors. If it is a 3i box that is 5 speed then you'll have no bother. Will probably make it a bit quicker round town as the shorter ratios but will rev higher overall. It'll be right

yeah its a xr3i box i have the 1.8 non terbo engine the mounts look in a differe place because the xr3i box has a cradle under as a mount were as my van has two seperate mounts one at the front and one at the back

i have taken the old van box off and fond loads on iol in the bellhousing so i think the oil seal behind the flywheel has gone :/

also found out whats happened to the old van box a metal bung has come out and some how the gears have shredded so i can not get any gears.

thank you
